Meralco Advisory - May 2020
Due mainly to Meralco's Force Majeure claim during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), electricity rates for the May 2020 power bills will have a noticeable decrease during these trying times. The rate decrease amounts to P0.2483 per kWh or around P50 to the total bill of typical households where power consumption averages 200kWh monthly.
Additionally, Meralco’s distribution, supply, and metering charges continues to remain unchanged for almost 5 years.
How does the Force Majeure claim reduce electricity bills?
Because of the very significant reduction in overall power demand brought about by businesses shutting down during the ECQ, Meralco invoked the Force Majeure provision in its Power Supply Agreements (PSA) to reduce the fixed charges from power suppliers.
Despite the decrease, Meralco urges customers to be energy efficient. To read about our Bright Ideas tips on how to do this, click here.
Note: The electrical bills customers will receive this May are based on their past three month's average consumption. The lower electricity rate for May will be reflected once meter reading has started.
