From L-R: Maria Vivien Arnobit, Head of Advocacy Development and Engagement of Meralco Power Academy, Dr. Paul Camiong, High School Principal of Jubilee Christian Academy, Ma. Amelia Tuason, Head of Talent Resourcing, and Ms. Nancy Ramos, Assistant Principal and Head of the Senior High School Work Immersion Program, presents the Get Wired Certificate of Completion to Mr. Vinz Keenan Go, student from Jubilee Christian Academy Senior High School.
In a company first, MERALCO has institutionalized a program to support the newly implemented industry internships of Department of Education, via the Get Wired Immersion Program, spearheaded by Meralco Talent Resourcing and Learning and Development’s Technical Training team. For its pilot run, students from Jubilee Christian Academy Senior High School (JCA SHS) taking up the Science Technology and Mathematics (STEM) track were able to complete a 40-hour internship with Meralco’s Networks Group, where they learned technical skills and operations for electrical distribution and management of sub-transmission and distribution systems, processes, facilities and infrastructures. Not only did the students learn practical knowledge on distribution utility in a fun and stimulating environment, they were also able to tour the campus, and learn different career opportunities. During the culminating activity of JCA SHS’s MERALCO Get Wired Immersion Program, Ms. Ma. Amelia I. Tuason, Head of Talent Resourcing, emphasized the important role of closer and sustained academe industry partnerships, human capital amidst changing development contexts, and the youth as a significant resource of the future of MERALCO. Dr. Paul P. Camiong, Jubilee Christian Academy High School Principal, meanwhile shared the school’s vision to produce quality graduates willing to serve God and Country with love and excellence, and how the partnership with MERALCO was able to strengthen this desire, “because of the immersion program, our graduates in JCA SHS will have an understanding of what real work environment is. Our students are blessed to see the MERALCO’s excellent work towards our country's economic progress.” With the successful pilot run of MERALCO Get Wired Immersion Program, the team behind it aims to continuously identify opportunities to improve basic education, to innovate solutions for technological and industrial problems, and to stay responsive and relevant to national development goals.
