Extending aid to storm-hit communities in Masbate
As part of its disaster resilience and response program that extends beyond its franchise area, Manuel V. Pangilinan-led One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), immediately extended help to communities in Masbate province that were recently struck by Typhoon Opong (international name: Bualoi).
Residents living in the coastal area of Barangay Suba and Cadulan in Dimasalang, Masbate received relief packs containing food for their families following the recent onslaught of the typhoon.
Aside from distributing food packs, OMF, in partnership with the Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Inc., also provided solar lamps to students so that they remain productive even during power outages—ensuring that learning continues while power restoration efforts are ongoing in the province following the typhoon.
The solar lamps are among the supplies inside the Department of Education’s EduKahon, a ready-to-deploy school recovery kit which contains hygiene kits, writing and learning materials, notebooks to be given to students in calamity-stricken areas so they can continue their studies wherever they may be.

Shedding light during trying times. As part of its mission to spread light and hope, One Meralco Foundation through its Light Up Pilipinas program provided solar lamps to students to help them in their studies.
“Thank you, [One] Meralco Foundation, for the lamps for Masbate,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara in a Facebook post.
Through its Light Up Pilipinas program, OMF has provided solar lamps to more than 8,000 families, fisherfolks, indigenous communities, forest rangers, soldiers, and those in underserved rural communities so they can be more productive at home and at work.
OMF works closely with partner organizations and local governments nationwide to deliver timely assistance to affected communities, empower recovery efforts, and uphold Meralco’s mission of spreading light where it is needed most.
“We aim to bring not just physical light but also hope to Filipino families affected by disasters. The solar lamps and food packs we distribute serves as a symbol of our commitment to help communities recover amid adversity,” OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao said.
