OMF Energizes Health Station in Polillio Island
ONE MERALCO FOUNDATION ENERGIZES HEALTH STATION IN POLILLO ISLAND
More than 3,000 residents of Polillo Island have gained access to essential medical services after the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), energized a health station in the municipality of Panukulan using solar energy.
With a three-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) system, the Barangay Rizal Health Station can now provide residents with services that use medical equipment like nebulizers for patients with asthma and fetal doppler for pregnant women.
Prior to this project, the health station, located in an off-grid barangay, did not have electricity service. Residents in need of basic health services used to travel hours via boat so they can go to the nearest rural health unit in the town proper.
Aside from the energized health station in Panukulan, Quezon, OMF in 2024 also energized another health station in Sitio Kolonbong in Barangay Lamfugon, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. The energization of rural health centers is among the initiatives of OMF under its community electrification program which also covers off-grid public schools, low-income households in the Meralco franchise area, water access, and agricultural and livelihood programs. #
